Lisa will share the latest on ALA's current advocacy campaigns, the federal policy issues the Public Policy Office is closely monitoring, and recent intellectual freedom developments at both the national and state levels. You'll also learn about current calls to action and how library advocates can support coordinated efforts to advance and protect libraries nationwide.

When extreme heat arrives, Michigan libraries often become more than places to borrow books—they're welcoming community spaces where people can cool off, charge devices, access Wi-Fi, and find relief during dangerous temperatures.

Many libraries partner with local emergency management agencies by serving as cooling centers or directing residents to nearby locations, demonstrating yet another way libraries support community well-being.

Now that we’ve started our engines and enjoyed the first stop on the Summer Reading Road Trip, it’s time for Stop #2: “Explore Michigan.” During this stop, encourage the kiddos in your life to learn about Michigan authors and read Michigan-based books all while enjoying Michigan’s incredible nature during this Pure Michigan summer.

See below for a list of challenges:

Read a book or short story by a Michigan author. Choose someone that lives in Michigan or grew up here.
Read a book or short story that takes place in Michigan. (Bonus: Find that place on a map.)
Read a book outside while you enjoy a Pure Michigan summer. (Bonus: Read at a state forest, park, or recreation area)
Learn more about Michigan history by visiting the Michigan History Center or their website. Write about three new things you learned.
Add four more entries to your summer journal. Consider visiting a Michigan historical marker and writing about what happened there.
