Yesterday we hosted our FIRST of the FIVE Listening Sessions for Eastside Love Letters. We met with the residents of Chandler Park and surrounding blocks to talk about murals, neighborhood memories, and share the affirmations we use in our daily lives to lift ourselves up. We also had 6 lucky winners of our $50 gift card raffle and some very tasty food from ! P.S. all the food was great, but I swear it’s something special about that Caesar Salad. IYKYK😂

Don’t fake the funk, just be funky. I loooove Detroit’s Art scene, but I feel bad for all the emerging artists that shrink themselves to be accepted by everyone. Every time I go out to events within my industry I am reminded how many of us are actually incredibly lonely. People grasping for straws to have meaningless conversations. People who ghost your calls/emails, but will give you a hug to save face in person. While talking to a good friend of mine today I was reminded that I am not the only person this happens to.
Last night I had a great time making sure to intentionally engage with the people who show me REAL love. Living in Detroit has been one of my greatest joys in life and today I am filled with a ton of gratitude. Thank you to and for curating a beautiful event, and also including me despite me taking time to respond because I’m generally chasing a small human around. ANAAND Thank you to Detroit for continuing to show me love and pour into me.
Additionally, we kicked off the Eastside Love Letters Listening Sessions with today. I feel so centered in who I am and what my focus is. It’s a great space to be in. I’m glad to finally be here.
To any artists who want tips to longevity, my advice is to be YOU. Don’t change that for money, attention, or a spot on a damn wall. Don’t fake the funk my babies, just be funky🤞🏽
