Adult soldier beetles, also known as leatherwings, like to eat nectar, pollen, and aphids. The larvae are also predators, hunting in the dirt and foliage for eggs, small insects, and snails to name a few. The larvae are similar looking to caterpillars and have fine hairs, earning them the name velvet worms.
