Xerxes, alias "The King."

Danielle Turner recently completed her vocal performance degree at New Mexico State University. She has worked with Doña Ana Lyric Opera both onstage and backstage for the past five years in productions including Die Fledermaus, Dido and Aeneas, Orphée aux Enfers, Berlin to Broadway, and the world premiere of The Verloren Opera. With the support of NMSU and the Las Cruces community, Danielle studied abroad in Germany in the summer of 2015 to sing with German Opera Experience program in Freiberg. In the coming months, Danielle will be auditioning for graduate programs to continue her education in vocal performance.

Carlos Corral plays the role of Captain Ariodate.

Carlos has performed in Madama Butterfly under the baton of Maestro Ari Pelto with soprano Shuying Li, and La bohème with El Paso Opera. Recently, Carlos performed the role of Herr von Schönhahn in Zehn Mädchen und kein Mann by Franz von Suppé in Freiberg, Germany. Carlos would like to become the best artist that he can be and pursue further vocal training, with the goal of a professional career as an opera singer.

Sophia Sesha Grieb plays the role of Romilda, whose very voice tempts and taunts men.

NMSU alum and DALO veteran, Sophia’s roles include Bastienne in Bastien & Bastienne, Valencienne in The Merry Widow, and Hansel in Hansel & Gretel. She has also sung extensively with
NMSU Choirs, Bella Voce de Las Cruces, El Paso Chorale Chamber Choir, the Bruce Nehring Consort, St. Paul’s Choir, and Operation Spread the Music.

Meet the cast of Handel's Xerxes every Thursday!

Amanda Ronquillo plays the role of Amastres, who is on a journey of discovery that not only changes her life, but her clothes as well. Disguised as a man, she goes in search of her pl***oy husband, Xerxes.

Amanda is a senior at New Mexico State University and is pursuing her degree in vocal performance. She is an active member of NMSU’s University Singers and Doña Ana Lyric Opera. She has sung in the past with the El Paso Young Ladies Choir, El Paso Conservatory of Music, El Paso Opera, and Texas All-State Choirs. Amanda played the witch in DALO’s production of Dido and Aeneas, and Venus in Orpheus in the Underworld in 2014. This past summer, she played the role of The Monitress in Suor Angelica and was part of the cast of Suppé's Zehn Mädchen und kein Mann in Germany.

Handel's masterpiece will be presented in a highly concentrated, ninety-minute version, set in the gangland underworld of the 1920's. Not to be missed!

Annie Pennies plays the role of Atalanta. She carries a torch for Arsamene (see below). Maybe her dream will come true this time?

Annie is a graduate of NMSU. Roles include Meg in Falstaff, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Carmen with the Rome Opera Festival. Annie sang La Principessa in OperaOggiNYC’s Suor Angelica, Drei Dame in New York Lyric Opera’s Die Zauberflote, First Witch in Opera Meraviglia’s Dido & Aeneas, Revirnikova in The Cunning Little Vixen with One World Symphony and three seasons of Pacific Encore Performances at Carnegie Hall. Annie holds a MMA in Performance from ASU, where she is also a doctoral candidate. She teaches voice, piano, guitar and yoga in El Paso and Las Cruces.
