For the telephone to become a fixture in 25% of American homes, it took 35 years. TV needed 26 years to do it. Radio needed 22 years to get there. In 16 years, PCs did it. The Internet took 7 years to catch up. An afterthought Technology advancements have had a wide-ranging and profound effect on specific businesses and industries. For instance, not that long ago, anyone could rent movies on videotapes from physical businesses. These days, practically all movie rentals are done electronically. Books, journals, periodicals, and newspapers are among the publications that are quickly switching from hard copy to electronic format. These industries are suffering from a large number of businesses that use more conventional business models. Other businesses, such as haulage and mail services (both public and private), are also being impacted by these changes.
