Douglas County Voters will be replacing, Sheriff Ken McGovern , who retired this year. I believe Doug Woods should be that replacement. Doug has dedicated 33 years to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. During his tenure, Doug has served and supervised all divisions – Jail, Patrol, Drug Unit, Investigations, etc. Doug was the lead detective in the Thomas Murray (K-State professor) murder investigation.
I was a Deputy during the riots of the 60’s and 70’s, serving under the direction of Sheriff Rex Johnson. During these turbulent times, I know it is imperative to have a levelheaded leader who can direct the Sheriff’s Office, working in conjunction with members of the community and other law enforcement agencies. Doug has proven that ability by planning funeral services for fallen law enforcement officers across the state of Kansas.
I have known Doug personally his entire life and worked with him professionally. I know Doug is committed to all members of Douglas County and is the best choice to serve as our next Sheriff.

I am honored to write this letter of endorsement for Doug Woods for sheriff in Douglas County. As a police chief, I had the privilege to work with many quality leaders in law enforcement across the region and country who are focused on crucial issues facing their communities and our profession. Doug is one of those.
I believe he is well qualified to lead the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department now and into the future. He has demonstrated a collaborative community focus on improving services to those he serves and understands that law enforcement must continue to adapt to meet future needs and priorities.
Doug is compassionate and dedicated to members of his agency and the greater law enforcement community. He wants the best training and equipment for his deputies, so that they can provide the highest quality service to their community. He also has demonstrated his commitment to helping other law enforcement agencies in times of need. This includes assisting departments during some of the most difficult times when an officer or deputy is killed in the line of duty. Doug has provided his leadership and expertise to numerous agencies in this capacity.
I believe Doug’s extensive experience and demonstrated leadership have put him in the position to lead the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department into the future with great success.
