At first glance, you might not make the connection between our art exhibit this month and the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It’s about galls–those big, alien-looking growths on trees and plants! Since the 12th century, galls have been used to make ink - the very same ink used to sign the Declaration of Independence. Included in our informational display are pieces created by patrons during a program on gall ink, and how to make it. Using the gall ink and quills, participants created a piece based on their interpretation of democracy and hope for our future. You can check out this fascinating display through July 31st.

Christina unpacks what unsettles us about the wilderness and provides some book recs featuring those horrors lurking at the edge of civilization.
