Lee's Summit CARES
Lee’s Summit Cares Inc mobilizes community partners to develop a culture of physical and mental wellness
05/30/2026
Substance use and mental health are deeply connected because people may use alcohol or drugs to cope with stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, or emotional pain. Recovery is not about shame; it is about support, healing, and safer coping skills. Three ways to support recovery and mental wellness include encouraging professional help, building a sober support system, and replacing harmful coping habits with healthier tools. For confidential treatment referrals, SAMHSA’s National Helpline is available 24/7 at 1-800-662-HELP (4357), and 988 is available for crisis support. Lee’s Summit CARES works to prevent youth substance misuse and promote mental health through education, parenting support, and community programs.

Teachers and school staff mental health matters because educators carry lesson planning, student needs, parent communication, emotional labor, safety concerns, and burnout while still showing up for others every day. Three ways to support school staff wellness include respecting boundaries, encouraging breaks and support systems, and recognizing the emotional weight of their work. If a teacher or staff member is struggling, they can reach out to an employee assistance program, counselor, trusted colleague, or 988. Lee’s Summit CARES supports youth and families, and that includes uplifting the adults who help guide and protect young people.
