The torpedo bomber was developed for the Navy and Marine Corps and first saw action in the Battle of Midway. The plane was the most widely used torpedo bomber of World War II and was credited for sinking 30 submarines.

TBF and TBM designate the same type of plane, built by different companies: TBF for Torpedo Bomber Grumman and TBM for Torpedo Bomber General Motors.

Music played a powerful role on the home front and overseas during World War II. Nearly every American household owned a radio by December 1941. Song recordings and live performances were broadcast to millions in the United States and abroad. The music of the '40s raised troop morale and inspired people to support the war effort.
