“Danielle Wagamon is an excellent physical therapist.
The Benefits of Cerebellum Training!
Did you know? The cerebellum is responsible for the ABCs of movement: accuracy, balance, and coordination. Anytime you see a great golfer, a great tennis player, someone that makes an amazing catch in football, you can look at that and go “that was awesome, and they’ve probably got a great cerebellum.” If you want better balance or if you want smoother, more efficient movement, it can be valuable to evaluate and challenge the cerebellum in your training or rehabilitation program.
Practicing sports skills with your children supports building their neuromotor development and benefits your long term brain health by keeping healthy connections firing 🔥
Remix your cleaning routine! Take a break from static postures that create tension and learn to embrace more opportunities to move in the moment!
Today’s posture reset example is to be performed standing at the sink and is helpful to relieve tension, reset your spine, and stabilize back into the hips & core.
‼️All to be performed at your own risk at whatever sink you choose‼️
5 Truths of dysfunctional breathing (DB) & posture.
Breathing is central to our posture and the way we move. It influences mental outlook, appearance, emotional resilience, and stress management.
1. DB is attributed to improper coordination of your diaphragm, abdomen, and pelvic floor.
2. DB causes compensatory use or holding of other muscles contributing to altered postural holding.
3. Exercise with dysfunctional breathing can gradually make your posture worse!
4. This can worsen and contribute to chronic muscle tension in the back or neck.
5. DB can contribute to increased digestive and emotional distress.
So what can you do today?
Grab a ball, block, or rolled up towel and connect back inward with your body & breath.
Doing so in different positions allows for improved 360 trunk expansion, which allows for improved ability to fully activate our primary breathing muscles.
Improve the quality of your life and connect back to your body & breath ❤️

Why seek out a Manual Physical Therapist?
-
I’ve observed there is a knowledge gap between the different types of physical therapists that exist in the healthcare rehabilitation field.
-
Under the physical therapy umbrella there are multiple specialities including: cardiac/respiratory, neurology, Inpatient/Home care, geriatric, and orthopedic to name a few. All which can exist in various care levels.
-
A manual therapist can be categorized under orthopedic outpatient rehab, however, it includes a more specialized comprehensive hands on training approach to the physical examination, evaluation, and treatment.
-
Manual therapists like massage therapists are trained in assessment/treatment of the fascia and can perform soft tissues mobilization, Myofascial Release, and utilize specialized modalities such as cupping or Graston techniques.
-
Manual therapists like Chiropractors are also trained in assessment/treatment of spinal and extremity joint manipulation. And can perform cervical/lumbar traction techniques. Both can also be trained to use modalities such as dry needling, ultrasound, and electric stimulation, or laser.
-
Manual therapists like personal trainers can provide specific exercises to improve your strength, flexibility, and sports performance.
-
So why choose a manual therapist? Because they are trained to include all the skills found generally by three different types of professionals into their treatment care plan.
-
Manual therapy bridges the gap between utilizing a more hands 🙌🏽 on approach to healing (sometimes lacking in traditional outpatient PT) AND incorporates follow up care programs that supports neuromuscular/posture re-education, strengthening, and a ton of patient education around activity modifications and home exercises that aren’t necessarily always provided by other therapy approaches.
-
So in conclusion a manual therapist can support you with healing techniques that a Chiro/Massage therapist provide, but also consider utilizing additional therapies that can provide more long term lasting relief.
-
If you’re not satisfied with your healing journey or current care, I highly recommend you seek out a Manual PT in your area.
