Our Story

Altered Image Tattoo, Maine’s finest tattoo studio, was established by Eric Wing and the late, great Brian LeMay. AIT originated in North Carolina in 1997 and moved to Maine in 1999. Expanding to multiple branches, the Brunswick location was open for 8 years and was sold in 2017 so the base location in Lewiston could become the primary focus. In 2018, owner Eric Wing built a new, first-class building, specifically for the studio, moving from the Lisbon Street location to the current location of 545 Pleasant Street.

As a member of the Lewiston/Auburn community, AIT has had the opportunity to contribute to the dynamic of the area. A major influence of tattooing, many well-known artists have roots in AIT. As well as talent originating from the studio, AIT has hosted numerous celebrities including, the Jackass crew, Vanilla Ice and Tila Tequila, to name a few. AIT offers a number of products in house including a full line of apparel and tattoo care. The studio is also affiliated with The Wreck of Lisbon Street and offers a variety of their products.
