Safelite Solutions steers customers to Safelite AutoGlass because they’re basically one company under the Safelite Group, handling insurance claims while pushing business to their own glass repair shops. Independent glass associations claim this is anti-competitive, saying it creates a conflict of interest and violates fair practices. They’ve filed complaints with the FTC and DOJ about steering through apps and calls, limiting consumer choice and hurting smaller shops. Legally, it’s tricky-some states, like Connecticut, have laws against it, but enforcement’s spotty. Safelite says they’re separate entities, but critics argue it’s all one game to control the market.
