Eric Dodson - Independent Insurance Agent
Independent Property & Casualty Insurance Agent
Many individuals, families and businesses right now are hurting due mainly to the economy of the Coronavirus. If you are among those that are hurting financially, call your insurer’s billing department. Give them your policy number and explain your situation and ask them if there is anything that they can do to help you. Many insurers are stepping up and offering relief to those in need who reach out and request. I cannot speak for every insurer, but many are trying to help.
I just read an article from one of our cyber and privacy liability insurers. They have seen a marked increase in ransomware attacks in the past several months. Over 60 percent of those businesses reporting these ransomware attacks are small businesses.
This might be surprising to some, but the fact of the matter is that small businesses, churches and non profit organizations typically have to rely on their internet service provider for their security measures (due to cost, but also a lack of understanding by the small entity of what it takes to secure the network and data).
If your business has personally identifiable information on your clients/patients/customers (names, dates of birth, SSN, email address, and other private information), please make sure that you have an IT company that can provide defense of your network - and make sure you have a good cyber and privacy liability policy in place (they are not all created equal - some offer very good protection and others offer little or no coverage).
