Congratulations to doctoral student & WISHling Kirstin Clephane on receiving high praise from a recent commentary in Brain Behavior and Immunity (link: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0889159122003695). The commentary reflected on Clephane’s recent investigation of the impact of acute s*xual arousal on vaginal mucosal cytokine and immunoglobulin A (IgA) antibody levels in healthy women with and without a history of s*xual violence. The commentary praised their work, asserting that Clephane and co-authors presented, “important and novel findings regarding the mechanisms via which s*xual trauma may modulate vaginal immune metrics following arousal that are important for reproductive health…Overall, the findings reported herein provide a deeper understanding of the relationship between s*xual abuse and immune function, an important yet understudied dimensional of s*xual and overall health.” Wooo!
