Psalm 24:7-10 tells us lift up our heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is he, the King of glory? The Lord Almighty, He is the King of glory. It’s obvious who the King of glory is and this being a metaphorical command for humanity to welcome Him into our hearts and recognize His absolute rule. It starts with trusting Him as our Savior and a continued trust, remaining in Him as we let Him in. It reminds me of Revelation 3:20 as Jesus stands at the door and knocks. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with them, and them with me. As we lift our heads it allows us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the Lord Almighty, the King of glory. We must open that door daily to fellowship with Him and grow up in our salvation and relationship with Him. May our heart always be open to Him and his leading.

Psalm 24:5-6 tells us that they will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation who seek Him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. The Hebrew word for blessing implies a divine gift, favor, or empowerment to flourish and experience well being. It literally means to kneel or to praise. In other words, it’s a blessing to kneel and/or praise God. As Christians we must realize that we’ve been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms (Eph. 1:5). This applies to those who (genuinely) seek Him. We are to pursue God, not a casual or haphazard glance or experience, but an intense, deliberate, intimate desire to know God. May this be our pursuit and desire each and every day.

Psalm 24:3-4 asks the question, “Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place?” The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. In other words, who can be in the presence of God? We must have clean hands and a pure heart! Therefore, in and of ourselves, no one. Clean hands refers to our character and actions, a life of righteous deeds and the active avoidance of evil. Wiersbe says it’s the way we act in private is identical to the way we appear in public. A pure heart means singleness of heart so no double allegiance. A pure heart seeks God alone, our motives are unmixed and solely devoted to His will and glory. To stand in His presence and enjoy it requires imitating his truthfulness, keeping his promises and refusing to use empty or manipulative words. Let us examine our internal and external character. May it be a life of genuine worship, honesty, and consecration that pleases God. By His grace we have been allowed into his presence, Amen!

Psalm 24:1-2 tells us that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. This gives us an overall perspective on our place in this world. We all belong to the Lord if we recognize it or not. We’ve been made in His image and likeness for the purpose to have and enjoy a personal relationship with him (Gen. 1:26-27). However, sin which means missing the mark being that of holiness messed this all up. Fortunately, God has a plan of redemption by the sacrifice of his one and only Son in our place that whomever believes in him shall not parish but have eternal life (John 3:16). As God made everything and everything belongs to Him, we are the clay and he is the potter (Isa. 64:8). May we let Him mold us as he desires to his glory.

Psalm 23:6 tells us that surely your goodness and mercy follow us all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. God’s goodness and mercy represents His active pursuit and unwavering commitment to His people. Goodness means kindness, generosity, and active provision. His love is our covenant relationship with Him. This follows us, pursues, and chases us all the days of our life. Therefore, we will dwell, live as in the most comfortable room in our home. Let us be comfortable as we dwell in the Word of God.

Psalm 23:5 tells us that you prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. The table He prepares indicates God’s provision and sustaining grace that continues even when surrounded by opposition or hardship. The anointing of oil signifies honor, healing, and welcome. God cares intimately for his sheep and the anointing represents blessing and empowerment provided by God’s presence. The cup that overflows illustrates that God’s blessing and grace extend far beyond mere survival, giving believers a life of spiritual abundance and security. Jesus is eager for us to sit at the table for time with him. He sits at tables far more than he turns them over. As we do this, we will truly experience the abundant life.

Psalm 23:4 tells us that even though walk through the valley of darkness I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and staff comfort me. This tells us that as Christians we can experience complete courage in life’s darkest moments. It’s not because the dangers are gone or disappear but because the Good Shepherd is present to protect and guide us. The valley involves difficult times. The Shepherd does not abandon us but deliberately leads us through these challenging places. As has been said numerous times, He is with us. The rod is used to defend against predators and represents divine protection. The staff is used for gentle guiding and correction. Together they offer ultimate reassurance and comfort to us. May this give us comfort especially if we are going through a dark time or place.

Psalm 23:2-3 tells us that He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right path for his name sake. We must understand the nature of sheep which is to wander and cast on their backs rendering them helpless. We experience spiritual exhaustion and stray from God. The Shepherd gently restores and revives our soul. He leads the flock rather than drives the flock. He directs us along the right paths for the purpose to live an obedient life for Him. May we always turn to the Shepherd to be refreshed.

Psalm 23:1 tells us that the Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing. This indicates that He cares for us, feeds us, loves His flock so much he would leave the 99 for 1 and ultimately lay down his life for his flock. As we understand this we lack nothing. Our total reliance is on Jesus for our physical and spiritual needs. Jesus is all we need for survival. In contrast to the world’s view, this is a radical trust! We must trust the Shepherd for everything especially his guidance in our life. May He be our Shepherd each and every day.

Psalm 22:30-31 tells us that posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn; He has done it! We must continue to tell future generations about the Lord. We never know the impact of telling someone today that has incredible implications in the future. It’s a simple message about declaring His righteousness. A great declaration is us being righteous as a reflection of His righteousness.
