There is a severe lack of curly representation in the beauty industry.
I remember being in cosmetology school and realizing I had zero idea what to do with curly hair—and my instructors were pretty much oblivious too.
As someone with naturally straight hair it was completely foreign to me so I made it a point to learn how to work with hair textures different from my own. I always knew that my biggest mission as a stylist was to make everyone feel welcomed and cared for in my chair.
Fast forward to the past 8 or so years, I started attracting a lot of clients who said they heard I was a curl specialist (which I have never claimed)
But I truly believe they booked because I did have a handful of beautiful and happy curly clients so I was someone they trusted to not botch their hair (which they pretty much all had horror stories of in the past)
There is a big difference between being a curly specialist and a stylists who is simply properly educated in working with curly hair.
I can cut, color, style, and educate my clients about curls because I sought out that education, so here are a few of my fave real curl specialists for you to follow:
hair is an alumni student who has taken all of my online education. She has truly set the standard for bringing luxury curl services to her hometown and I’m so mesmerized by how she cares for her clients and their curls. She also coaches other stylists in working with curly hair which is so needed!
My bestie is a ETX local curl specialists! She moved here last year and worked at my salon for a while before moving to Tyler. I’ve seen the way she educates her clients about their curls and it brings me so much joy to know that we have her here to care for all of our local curlies that need a little extra love and support.
If you have a fave curly specialist, tag them below so that they can get the recognition they deserve! They are really doing the most for the beauty industry.

Small towns are full of talented stylists, but so often clients are driving to the city for their hair appointments simply because they don’t realize the options they have available to them in their hometown.
Social media kinda sucks for showing your content to local clients when you live in a small town, but there are even better options available for marketing your business as a hairstylist.
The Small Town Marketing Method is your guide for attracting dream clients in your hometown. The price point is super accessible, and if you sign up this week during my Pre-Black Friday sale you also get a FREE coaching call for added support.
