Thirty-four years ago today, on a Friday in Bangor, Maine, I became a mother for the first time.

Two days later, we brought our baby girl home in time to celebrate my first Mother’s Day.

So this year’s post is a two-fer! It’s a Happy Birthday post AND Happy Mother’s Day post to our amazing daughter and wonderful mother she has become.

Rachel, you continue to amaze us at the love and energy you put behind all that you do.

Once a month, on the 4th Wednesday, a bunch of rag tag creatives get together to “write.”

We talk about our craft. We talk (and sometimes cry) about our life. We share our writing if someone asks.

Basically, we support each other. Because writing is lonely. And our inner critic is a loud mouth tyrant. And sometimes we just need someone to say - “I know exactly how you feel. But write any way!!”

This week, we celebrated the two year smoke free anniversary of one of our writers. And in keeping with the theme, she brought us candy ci******es to chomp away on while we wrote.

Needless to say, we spent more time laughing than writing. The belly-hurting pee-your-pants kind of laughing. And I left that night with a smile on my face and excitement for my writing future.

I’m continually reminded that we are not meant to go through this life alone. And I am so grateful to my writing community.
