Día de Los Mu***os, also referred to as Day of the Dead, is different from Halloween. These two annual events vary in traditions and tone though they are very much related. Halloween is seen as a night of terror and mischief while Day of the Dead festivities unravels over two days in a burst of color and life-affirming joy. The theme is indeed death, but it concentrates on the demonstration of love and respect to deceased family members. In some towns and cities throughout Mexico, revelers don colorful makeup and costumes, hold parties and parades, sing and dance, and make offerings to bereaved loved ones.
