Some moves get labeled as "low percentage" or "don't work" because people focus on the outcome instead of the concepts behind them.
This back attack is a perfect example. No, it won't always finish exactly like it does in the drill. But the mechanics are what matter.
Instead of chasing a traditional back finish, we're back-stepping into a hybrid arm-in guillotine/arm triangle position. Depending on how they react, it can also lead directly into an anaconda.
Could I just hold the back and play it safe? Sure.
But I'd rather take risks hunting submissions than spend the round protecting points. Sometimes that means losing position. Sometimes it means finding finishes that other people never even look for.
Moves don't fail because they're unconventional. They fail when the concepts behind them aren't understood. đź«

How to dig an underhook 👊
Instead of reaching for the underhook, create the reaction first.
Use a club collar tie to move their head off line. As they push back to regain position, pull them into a bladed stance and shoot your underhook through the opening.
Don't chase the underhook—make them give it to you.
Save this one for your next wrestling session and let me know if it works for you.

⛰️ Day 3 is in the books, and with that, the first-ever Jiujitsu on the Mountain has come to a close.
We wrapped up the weekend with incredible seminars from Blane Sibille and Matt Paul, sharing techniques, concepts, and perspectives that gave everyone plenty to take home to their own training. More importantly, we spent one last day doing what this event was created for—bringing people together.
Between the training, horseback riding, shooting, campfires, meals, mountain views, and countless conversations, this weekend became so much more than a seminar series. It became an opportunity to connect with old friends, make new ones, share knowledge, and build relationships through a common love of grappling.
For a first-year event, we couldn't have asked for a better group of people. The support, enthusiasm, patience, and positive energy from everyone involved made this weekend truly special.
To every instructor, attendee, volunteer, sponsor, friend, and family member who helped make Jiujitsu on the Mountain a reality—thank you. We are incredibly grateful.
This may be the end of the weekend, but it's only the beginning. Once the dust settles and we catch our breath, we'll be looking ahead to the next Jiujitsu on the Mountain and finding ways to make it even better.
Until then, thank you for being part of something special.
We'll see you on the mat. 🤙⛰️
