If you read the first Hello Flutters book, you met Nevaeh.
She wasn't the easiest character to love. She was sharp with Tala. She pushed. She made things harder for everyone around her.
Here's what I've seen again and again in my work as a therapist. The child who acts the hardest is usually the one carrying the most fear. The talking back, the short fuse, the bullying, those aren't the problem. They're the armor.
Nevaeh has a story. This fall, she finally gets to tell it.

Naming what is happening inside a child tells them the feeling is not too big to be seen. The moment gets smaller once it has words. This is the language I want every child to have early.

I didn't learn to name my own fear until I was an adult. For years I read it as something wrong with me. I want the children in your life to skip that long detour. When a child can say I am scared and still take the next step, something shifts for the rest of their life.

Many parents notice the behavior first and miss the feeling underneath it. That isn't a failure at all. It's hard to read a storm from the outside. Before you correct the behavior, try naming the body. You look scared. I am right here.
