When you decide to own a home in New Jersey, there is one thing you must always consider: high property taxes. New Jersey is famous for its high taxes, which gives us a bad name and contributes to the loss of retirees. When they can move to save money in retirement, they do. With that in mind, it's good to know that those over 65 and/or with disabilities who are sticking around are eligible for some relief. If you're a over 65, or disabled, have owned your own home for over 3 years, and are up-to-date on your taxes, you may qualify for some relief. The relief checks average about $1,000. That is certainly enough to make it worth looking into. It might not fix the high taxes but it gives you adequate back to take a vacation, pay another bill or two, who knows. There is a ceiling on your income but it's high as things go - $94,000 in 2021.
