Time Extended - Flood Watch. This is an update. Flash flooding from excessive rainfall remains possible through Sunday evening across portions of northeast Kentucky (Boyd, Carter, Greenup, Lawrence), southeast Ohio (Lawrence), southwest Virginia (Buchanan, Dickenson), and West Virginia (Boone, Cabell, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, Northwest Fayette, Northwest Raleigh, Putnam, Southeast Fayette, Southeast Raleigh, Wayne, Wyoming). Rounds of showers and thunderstorms may bring locally heavy rain and flooding in low areas. Avoid flooded roads and don’t drive through water.

Time Extended - Flood Watch. This is an update. Flash flooding from excessive rainfall remains possible through late Sunday night across the Kentucky counties of Bath, Elliott, Estill, Fleming, Menifee, Montgomery, Powell and Rowan, Johnson, Martin, Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne, Whitley, Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Knott, Knox, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike and Wolfe. Repeated rounds of heavy showers and storms may cause flooding in creeks, streams, and low-lying areas. Turn around, don’t drown.
Heavy rain chances are increasing across Kentucky over the next 48 hours, and parts of the state could see repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms.
In tonight’s forecast, I’ll break down the latest data, where the heaviest rain may set up, who has the greatest flooding concern, and how the timing looks through the weekend.
We’ll be watching for:
🌧️ Periods of heavy rain
⚠️ Localized flooding concerns
⛈️ Embedded thunderstorms
🚗 Slower travel during heavier downpours
📍 Highest rainfall totals where storms repeat over the same areas
This does not mean every town sees flooding, but with moisture increasing and multiple rounds of rain possible, we’ll need to stay weather aware — especially in areas that pick up heavier totals in a short amount of time.
