As temperatures soar and humidity levels rise, the London Fire Department urges residents to take precautions against the dangers of extreme heat. High temperatures can overwhelm the body's natural cooling system and lead to serious heat-related illnesses.

Know the Signs of Heat Illness:

🔹 Heat Cramps
• Painful muscle cramps
• Heavy sweating

What to Do:
✔️ Apply firm pressure to cramping muscles
✔️ Sip water if not nauseated
✔️ Seek medical attention if cramps last longer than one hour

🔹 Heat Exhaustion
• Heavy sweating
• Weakness
• Cool, clammy skin
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Headache
• Fainting

What to Do:
✔️ Move to a cool location
✔️ Loosen clothing
✔️ Apply cool, wet cloths
✔️ Sip water
✔️ Seek medical attention if symptoms worsen or last more than one hour

🔹 Heat Stroke – A Medical Emergency
• Body temperature above 103°F
• Confusion
• Throbbing headache
• Hot, red, dry skin
• Rapid pulse
• Loss of consciousness

What to Do:
🚨 Call 911 immediately
🚨 Move the person to a cooler location
🚨 Cool the body with wet cloths or a cool bath

Heat stroke can be life-threatening. Early recognition and quick action can save lives.

☀️ Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, check on elderly neighbors and family members, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
