Lately I've thought that those aspects are a natural reflection of the human condition and a symbol of our growth. As a result scarred wood has become more prevalent in my floating shelves. We did the crown molding, floor molding, built and painted new Shaker cabinet doors--installed with vintage hinges for a retro look, and added a custom cabinet enclosure around the stove.

This the cheapest door you can buy, hollow and full of cardboard interior framing. However, If you want it to look like the most expensive door in the neighborhood, just add some exterior trim work, black modern handles, and, in this situation, where the client is renting out a second room. we ADDED an interior lockable doggie door inside the trim. BAM!
