This week we held our last group sessions with 4 groups of teenage girls at Sunburst Youth Challenge Academy who have experienced a lot of life challenges that include some stories of profound grief, loss, and trauma.
They’ve bravely stepped into the space of processing their feelings, speaking about their loss (many for the first time), and allowing themselves to offer and recieve support from their peers.
This month is Children’s Grief Awareness month, and this Thursday is National Children’s Grief Awareness Day.
Research shows that 1 in 12 children will lose a biological parent or sibling by the age of 18.
(Judi’s House, 2022)
When you consider multi-generational living, friendship, school and sports communities, and other familial relationships, 90% of children will experience the death of a significant person in their lives before they graduate from high school (Coalition to Support Grieving Students, 2022).
Our Launch Party Fundraiser is this Thursday 🦋
If you’re local and able to attend, I’d absolutely love to see you there!
If you’d like to learn more about what we do, would like to get involved in volunteering, or would like to make a donation of any size to fund this work, please see the links below.

This month, we honor Children’s Grief Awareness Month and recognize the young people who have experienced the loss of an important person in their life. 💙

Understanding how grief affects a child’s development and behavior helps us respond with compassion and show up as the supportive adults they need.
Swipe through to learn why grief-informed communities matter and how we can make a difference together.
If you’d like to get involved, volunteer, or support this work, we would love to have you at our Launch Fundraiser tomorrow evening in Long Beach. Sign up at the link in our bio!

Children don’t grieve the same way adults do. Their understanding of death changes as they grow, and their grief often comes in waves.
This Children’s Grief Awareness Month, let’s
remember every child who is grieving needs
support that meets them where they are.
Join us on November 20th to learn more about the resources available through Common Ground and how we can help grieving children together. đź’™
