July is BIPOC Mental Health Month. 💛
Mental health challenges exist in every community. Access to care does not.
More than 60% of the young people we serve identify as BIPOC, in a county where about one-third of residents are BIPOC. That difference isn't about who struggles. Struggle is universal. It's about who is able to access care—and who finds a space where they feel seen, safe, and understood.
Culturally responsive, affirming mental health care matters. It means young people don't have to leave parts of themselves at the door or explain who they are to receive support. Through art therapy, they have the opportunity to express their whole story, in ways that feel authentic to them.
The need has always been there. Access is what we're working to change.

17% of the youth restART identifies as LGBTQIA+
Nationally, LGBTQIA+ youth are more than four times as likely to attempt su***de as their peers. They're more likely to experience family rejection, housing instability, and bullying. They're less likely to feel safe in school. And they're significantly less likely to have access to affirming mental health care.
This Pride Month, we want to be clear about what affirming care actually means at restART studio. It means a young person can show up as themselves on day one, without having to educate their therapist or hide a part of who they are. It means art-making becomes a space where identity can be explored on the young person's own terms.
Affirming care isn't a specialty. It's a baseline. And every young person deserves it.
