If you walked through Davis Lobby the week before finals, you probably spotted a few of Dr. Joon Wan Kim’s Digital Electronics students hard at work on their final projects!
This semester, students were challenged to design and build a fully functioning elevator prototype using a BASYS 3 FPGA board and any additional materials they could find or create. From logic circuits to troubleshooting hardware, each team put their engineering skills to the test.
But this project was about more than just circuits—it showcased teamwork, creativity, delegation, and serious time management skills. Many late nights (and even a few all-nighters) later, the results were incredible!
You can now check out and test the elevator prototypes in the Engineering Building. Huge congratulations to every team for finishing the semester strong!

At the end of the fall semester, Professor Aaron Brown visited two major ECE courses, Digital Electronics and Digital Signal Processing, to speak with students about the importance of technical writing.
While most engineering students learn essay writing before college, technical writing comes with its own unique standards and expectations. Strong technical communication skills are essential for engineers to clearly explain ideas, document procedures, and collaborate effectively in the professional world.
We’re thankful to Professor Brown for taking the time to share his knowledge and experience with our ECE students!
