🚨 Baseball Parents: The Game Is Changing.
An American high school player may soon lose the opportunity to get drafted.
The conversation around MLB draft eligibility isn’t really about age. It’s about one thing:
Development.
Around the world (especially Latin America), players are training with purpose at younger ages, tracking performance, and treating development like a profession long before most American players ever consider it.
The gap isn’t talent.
The gap is preparation.
And if high school players are no longer draft eligible, the impact on college baseball recruiting will be massive.
College coaches will become even more selective. Those elite HS players will go to college instead of the draft, and the transfer portal will become even deeper with older, more developed athletes competing for roster spots.
Recruiters will increasingly look for objective indicators of development:
✅ Strength
✅ Power
✅ Speed
✅ Athleticism
✅ Velocity
✅ Movement Literacy
The athletes who can demonstrate measurable improvement will separate themselves.
The athletes who can’t may find opportunities harder to come by.
If MLB changes the rules, debating whether it’s fair won’t matter.
What will matter is whether your athlete is developing faster than the competition.
The real wake-up call is that the rest of the world has already changed the game while most US families are worried about what 14u team their kid is on.
Here’s where we come in. At Velocity here’s how we help athletes help bridge the development gap:
📊 Know your numbers.
🔍 Identify your weaknesses.
📈 Measure your progress.
🚀 Attack your development.
The future of baseball recruiting will belong to the athlete who is the most developed today.
DM us if you’re ready to stop guessing and start developing tools that matter.
