It’s Women in Aviation Week, which also falls during Women’s History Month. Let’s celebrate pioneering aviators whose courage helped reshape what was possible in the sky.
Ruth Law pushed the boundaries of early flight with record setting performances that captivated audiences across the country. Her daring nighttime “loop the loop” flights made her one of the most accomplished aviators of the World War I era.
Bessie Coleman broke barriers as the first African American woman to earn an international pilot’s license, learning how to soar in France. She returned to the U.S. as a stunt pilot, using her platform to challenge segregation and inspire future generations of Black aviators.
Amelia Earhart became one of the world’s most celebrated pilots, from her first transatlantic flight as a passenger in 1928 to becoming the first woman to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic in 1932. Her trailblazing flights and advocacy for female pilots transformed aviation history.
This month offers countless opportunities to learn more about their legacy—and the many women who followed their flight paths.
