UPDATE: USAC’s Emergency Meeting Results!!

Unfortunately, the resolution was put to a secret, anonymous vote, and did not pass, in a 7 ‘yes,’ 4 ‘no,’ 1 ‘abstain’ breakdown. In this situation, the required vote was 8 yes votes out of 12 total votes, which is the standard majority 2/3 vote required.

We believe that the student body deserves transparency from the USAC and to know how their representatives vote.

We are also additionally concerned as there is a section of the USAC bylaws that should have caused the USAC President to step in and vote, which would have decided the outcome of the resolution. No further clarification has been provided as to why the USAC President did not provide her vote, or what the bylaws that she is beholden to are during the meeting.

But we are not giving up! The next meeting is TONIGHT at 7:00 PM! We have revised the resolution again, implementing more changes based on feedback. The DSU hopes that with these revisions, the resolution will pass, and we will be able to take next steps with implementing the items on the resolution to help UCLA be a safer, more accessible campus for all.
