🎉 What an unforgettable event! The David Labkovski Project proudly celebrated its 9th Annual Scholars Event, honoring Mark McKee, Head of Viewpoint School, with the Courage to Educate in Holocaust Education Award. 🌟
We were deeply moved by heartfelt tributes recognizing Mark’s dedication to the DLP and his inspiring work encouraging students to bear witness to history, shared by:
🎙️ Bob Bryan, Associate Head of Viewpoint School
🎙️ Weston Bell Geddes, Viewpoint alum and creator of DLP’s VR Experience
🎙️ Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, who joined DLP for our student-curated exhibit at the Vilna National Library and invited us to present at LA City Hall
🎙️ Calabasas City Councilmember David Shapiro
Keynote speaker Professor Therkel Stræde (University of Southern Denmark) gave a fascinating lecture, followed by a moving presentation by Sophie Young, DLP alum and published author, whom we first met during a lecture aboard a Uniworld Boutique River Cruises in Italy!
We were thrilled to welcome DLP docents and ambassadors from 14 schools, alumni from 6 colleges, and representatives from 5 California school districts — all united in their commitment to Holocaust education.
👏 The Ellie Lainer Youth Leadership Award was presented to:
🏅Jake Thomas – Cleveland Charter High School
🏅Lucia Selipanov – Mira Costa High School
🏅Marrissa Kalan – Oak Park High School
🏅 Eliana Pons – Loyola Country Day School
Guests were guided through the powerful DLP exhibit, “Documenting History through Art,” by student docents trained through our program.
💐 Huge thanks to our event co-chairs: Monica Borochoff, Beverly Brutzkus, Lisa Lainer Fagan, Debra Levine, Connie Marco, and Leora Raikin, whose dedication made this event possible.
