IMPORTANT SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT (last one before all pending episodes are unleashed into the wild for all of you savages to enjoy)
It’s been a difficult decision to make, but I’ve officially decided that the visual editing of the show has come to an end. Not entirely, so read through to see which conditions you’ll still see them on.
For the last 6 years, TFTC has taken an ungodly amount of time to release episodes. First we film a 2-3 hour conversation, then once the guest leaves, I then have to sit with it for another 2-4 weeks adding visuals on top. It gave the already saturated video podcast space a much fresher look and feel, and I’ve always referred to TFTC as a show because of it, not just a podcast. It helped separate us from the crowd, and I really did enjoy doing that work.
But over the last year or 2, I’ve felt creatively drained and unfulfilled spending weeks editing visuals. Whether an episode gets 1,000,000 views with visuals or without them, it still gets 1,000,000 views. At the end of the day, what matters most is the conversation, the quality of the interview, and getting bits and pieces of information out of my guests that no one has been able to do before me, or that anyone has heard before.
The visuals made conversations feel more nostalgic and gave fans a little extra to look at, but they’ve also become the biggest thing preventing you from actually seeing the episodes. The best way to describe how I feel is like I’m grounded from going outside to play with my friends while my bedroom window has a perfectly clear view of the playground they’re all on. Every week I’m sitting inside doing chores while everyone else is having fun without me.
So from now until the foreseeable future, the visual editing has come to an end. Certain episodes will still have them, like true crime episodes where we’re discussing documents, crime scene photos, timelines, or details that benefit from seeing them.
The episodes may look a little simpler, but in return we’ll be able to increase the output by 10x, get conversations into your hands while they’re still fresh, spend more time making the show better, and creating new styles of content.
EP27 out this week. Thanks!
