The Martha Project

The Martha Project just reached a milestone this month, serving 10,000 meals to the houseless community of LA! We want to give a 💗BIG THANK YOU💗 to all of our volunteers, people who donated, and collaborators who have made this all possible! This Thanksgiving food handout event was beyond moving. We were so grateful to have collaborated with this month and to be able to hand out a very special holiday burrito to the houseless community.

Volunteers arrived at the Sherman Oaks location and joined together in a moving gratitude meditation. Our CEO led participants in a guided journey where they had a opportunity to reflect on all of their blessings, hold loved ones in gratitude, and to send love forward to those they were about to serve. Volunteers loaded out and caravanned to multiple encampments in the North Hollywood and Hollywood areas.

The burritos were received with much joy and enthusiasm as smiles and thank you’s were exchanged. Something that stood out this event was that we heard from multiple houseless people that what they need more than food or money was simply love ❤️. They are starving for connection, they need a friend and they’d like to be loved without judgment. As this sentiment was shared multiple times throughout the day our hearts broke open, the love flowed out and the healing power of a hug became the best medicine.

Eating one burrito at Sugar Taco not only saves an animal's life, but helps conserve 375 gallons or water and spares 10 sq. feet of forest, as well as makes your belly ~very~ happy! This collaboration allows us to double our efforts for this special food handout! Sugar Taco has so graciously donated their kitchen and staff to create a very special holiday burrito that we will be able to serve the houseless community this month.

Since Sugar Taco is creating the food on our behalf this time, it’s going to be a very fun handout! Basically all the hard work is done and we get to just pick up the food and spread the joy.

We need two teams of volunteers for this one. Half of the volunteers will be picking up burritos and loading out from the Melrose Sugar Taco location while the other half will be picking up the burritos and loading out from the Sherman Oaks location. We will have a point person at each location to lead the hand out and guide you upon arrival. From there, we will deliver the burritos to the houseless community around Los Angeles.
