My name is Onicks. I am a recording artist, a person of color, and a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community. And I owe you an apology.

For too long I have moved through this industry in silence, watching, feeling, knowing, and saying nothing publicly. That silence came from fear. Fear that the industry I was trying to break into would not accept someone like me fully. Fear that speaking my truth would cost me opportunities, audiences, collaborations. What I did not realize until now is that staying quiet was already costing me something far more important. My integrity. My purpose. Myself. To everyone who needed to hear from me sooner, I am sorry. That ends today.

I have watched what is happening in this country and around this world very closely. I have watched communities be targeted, rights be stripped, voices be silenced, and humanity be treated as negotiable. As an artist, I was given a platform and a voice for a reason. It is not decoration. It is a responsibility. It is my job to speak about the things that are affecting the people around me, the people I love, the people who look like me, love like me, and exist like me. I cannot in good conscience continue to release music about truth and identity while keeping the most important parts of my own hidden. That contradiction is over.

From this point forward I pledge to be vocal, visible, and present in the conversations that matter. Not performatively. Genuinely. I want this page to be a space where the different, the dismissed, and the overlooked feel seen. So I will start here, with you. Tell me in the comments what YOU need people to hear right now.
