Mack Rutherford is a 19 year-old British-Belgian pilot and will be joining us as the keynote speaker at this year’s Cadet Programs Conference!
Mack has had a lifelong passion for aviation. Taking his first flight at 7, Mack knew he wanted to fly as often as possible.
His love for aviation encouraged him to pursue his pilot’s license, becoming the world’s youngest pilot at age 15!
After breaking this record, Mack challenged himself to become the youngest person to fly solo around the world.
He crossed 4 continents, 30 countries and 3 oceans to complete his journey in August 2022 at the age of 17.
Mack is studying at Stanford University and hopes to continue his passion for aviation there.

Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program
On October 1st, 1942, Major Earle Johnson, USAAF, then-CAP national commander, authorized and established the Civil Air Patrol Cadets (CAPC). In a memo sent from National Headquarters in Washington D.C., Maj Johnson urged all squadrons and flights of CAP to take prompt action in organizing a counterpart unit for the young people of its community.
One of Civil Air Patrol’s three congressionally mandated missions, the Cadet Programs remain a large and integral part of our everyday operations. Our 26,000+ cadets comprise almost 50% of our nationwide membership, with California Wing being one of the largest cadet wings in the nation.
