⚽️ 🌟 As a way to celebrate soccer’s cultural impact (rather than its commercial one 🤑), we’d like to share some Self Help Graphics’ artworks from the 2014 LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) exhibition 𝘍ú𝘵𝘣𝘰𝘭: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦.
This exhibition featured the works of thirty international artists who examined the sport through video, photography, painting, sculpture, and large-scale installation.ᯓ⚽️

This edition of prints addressed a range of cultural and political themes, from Olmecs symbols, highlighting one of the first major civilizations in Mesoamerica, to the 1994 death of Colombian soccer player Andres Escobar! ⚽️💥

Our community is resilient despite everything we face. 🤎
Recognizing that collective care in times of crises is essential, we want to uplift this by sharing a new serigraph printed at Self Help Graphics by artist Benjamin Muñoz’s (Benjamin Muñoz).✨
𝘋𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘑𝘰𝘺 is a six-layer screen print that serves as a love letter to Chicano culture and to the communities that continue to cultivate joy, togetherness, and celebration despite systems designed to marginalize them.
The work reflects on the resilience required to maintain cultural identity while navigating economic hardship, displacement, generational sacrifice, and environments that are often openly hostile toward immigrant communities, and as recent events show, disproportionately impacted by environmental racism.
At a time of ongoing ICE raids and increasingly aggressive rhetoric surrounding race and belonging in America, 𝘋𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘑𝘰𝘺 reminds us that community and joy can be acts of defiance. ✊🏾🦋☁️🎈
This release marks Muñoz’s first published edition with Self Help Graphics and is now available through SHG and Hecho a Mano Gallery (Hecho a Mano)! 🔥🔥🔥
