I keep hearing people say there are no jobs.
That's not really what I'm seeing.

What I'm seeing is a market that requires a lot more strategy than it did a few years ago.

There are jobs. Good jobs. The difference is that companies have more applicants, candidates have more tools, and everyone has more information. Hiring managers are researching candidates. Candidates can research companies.

The people getting traction aren't necessarily applying to more jobs. They're doing a better job searching for them.

They're researching. Positioning themselves intentionally. Tailoring their story. Understanding what the company actually needs before they hit apply.

You can't really half-do a job search anymore and expect great results.

The market got smarter.

Candidates need to get smarter too. If you are feeling like you've lost your way in this job search, I'm a seasoned career coach and recruiter and I'd love to chat. You can book an hour with me here: https://www.insidejobagency.com/contact

One of the biggest shifts people can make in their job search is moving from buzzwords to proof.

"Strategic."
"Results-driven."
"Storyteller."

Maybe all of those things are true.

But what hiring managers really want to know is: what did you actually do?

The launch you led.
The process you fixed.
The revenue you influenced.
The team you built.

The strongest personal brands aren't built on claims.

They're built on evidence.

Lead with the receipts. Let other people decide what to call you.

If your confidence feels lower than it did a few months ago, you're not imagining it.

A long job search has a way of making even the most accomplished people question themselves.

One of the hardest parts about a layoff isn't the first few weeks. It's what happens a few months later.

When the confidence starts slipping. When every job starts looking good enough. When you're no longer making decisions based on what you want... you're making them based on how badly you want the uncertainty to end.

That's why strategy matters early.

Not because it gets rid of the stress.

Because it helps make sure fear doesn't end up driving the car.

Book an hour with me if you want to get your strategy in place now -- whether you still have a job, were recently laid off, or got laid off several months ago.

"Storyteller" has become the default answer on LinkedIn.

And while it's often true... it's usually not the most useful thing to lead with. Because storytelling is the skill. It's not the specialty.

The question hiring managers are really trying to answer is: What kind of storyteller are you? Do you build brands? Shape creative? Find consumer insights? Create content systems? Drive demand?

The more clearly people understand where you fit, the easier it is for them to see your value.

Specificity doesn't limit opportunities. It helps the right ones find you.

One of the biggest mistakes I see in job searches is trying to keep every door open.

It feels safer. Especially when the market is tough.

But when your positioning is too broad, people struggle to understand where you fit and what they should bring you in for.

Think about how you would approach a brand launch. You'd define the audience, clarify the value proposition, and make sure the message was unmistakable.

Your job search deserves the same level of strategy.

The goal isn't to appeal to everyone. It's to make the right people immediately think, "This is exactly who we need."

That's when opportunities start finding their way back to you.
