Wonderland redevelops a challenging site in the Hollywood Hills where a single-family residence once occupied 3 parcels. As a stair going to the roof punctures the wall, the steel structure is exposed inside the upper level of the houses.

At Crystal Bridges, our pavilion sits on a rigid orthogonal grid of concrete and steel columns, signifying the underlying restrictive systems of housing: land acquisition, financing, permitting and construction. These systems are designed to minimize risks. In reality, a majority of the minority experience them as impediments to housing. In chipping away concrete columns, and as new columns rich in culture and craftsmanship emerge we pose a question: What if the housing systems could become more flexible to be inclusive? What would have to change for this to happen?
