TRUCK DRIVER CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO DEADLY 2025 WYOMING GREEN RIVER TUNNEL INFERNO THAT KILLED THREE PEOPLE

More than 15 months after the catastrophic Interstate 80 tunnel disaster that shocked the trucking industry, Wyoming authorities have filed felony homicide charges against 24-year-old truck driver Riaz Ahmad Noori in connection with the deadly February 14, 2025 Green River Tunnel inferno.

According to investigators, the crash happened inside the westbound tunnel near Green River, Wyoming, during dangerous winter driving conditions involving snow, ice, and slush near the tunnel exit. Authorities say traffic had slowed and several vehicles had already stopped or crashed inside the tunnel when Noori’s tractor-trailer allegedly entered the area traveling between 60 and 65 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.

Court documents state Noori’s semi struck a Dodge Ram carrying four occupants before continuing into multiple other vehicles, triggering a massive chain-reaction crash involving 26 vehicles, including several commercial trucks. The violent collisions sparked a devastating fire inside the tunnel, trapping motorists and creating thick smoke and extreme heat conditions that complicated rescue efforts.

Three people lost their lives in the crash:

* Christopher Johnson, 20, of Rawlins, Wyoming
* Quentin Romero, 22, of Rawlins, Wyoming
* Harmanjeet Singh, 30, of Nova Scotia, Canada

Several others were injured during the pileup and fire. Investigators say the intense blaze heavily damaged the westbound tunnel, forcing a lengthy shutdown that disrupted traffic along one of the nation’s major freight corridors for months while emergency repairs and a large-scale crash investigation were conducted.

Authorities say crash reconstruction determined “human error was the primary factor” in the incident. Investigators noted that other drivers were able to stop safely despite the hazardous conditions, while prosecutors allege Noori failed to maintain a safe speed and proper control of his commercial vehicle.

Noori is now facing multiple felony charges, including aggravated homicide and aggravated assault. Authorities say an arrest warrant has been issued as the criminal case moves forward.
