This spring, a 50‑foot 1949 Robert Guidry shrimp boat arrived at the Portland Museum campus. Having traveled the Gulf Coast and the Ohio River, it now anchors the AHOY Children’s Museum playscape. With support from Pace Contracting, crane operator Steve Townsend from Padgett, caretaker First Mate Michael Weinhart, Captain Pete O’Connell, Kerry Adkins, the Vogt family and neighbors, the historic vessel is being outfitted as an interactive play and performance space. As construction of the AHOY Children’s Museum begins, we are also restoring the boat to its former glory. This new feature marks the beginning of the Portland Museum’s expansion into a multi‑building campus. We’re grateful to Media Pros Productions for capturing the boat’s journey to the Portland Museum campus. We look forward to welcoming families to explore our community’s history in a hands‑on way.

Coming Sunday the 22nd, celebrate the newly announced partnership of AHOY and WEBER Group with our next exhibit: “I Bet We Can Build That” Weber Group Past, Present, and Future. Founded by two brothers born and raised in Louisville’s West End, Weber Group is a creative fabrication firm that’s made its name with projects in Louisville and around the nation. Featured will be the premiere of multiple designs for AHOY (Adventure House OF YOU) and a peek into Weber’s previous works and current processes. With AHOY being an unprecedented immersive arts experience and in the West End, Weber’s involvement is a storybook match!
