You add AMRs to reduce labor. Then you watch an operator walk to the wrap station every few minutes to cut film.
The automation is real. The gap is real too.
AMRs create continuous, autonomous material flow. But that flow is only as consistent as the equipment it is moving product to. A wrap station that needs operator intervention at the end of every cycle — or stops the AMR with a loose film tail — is not a minor inefficiency. It is a structural break in the system.
The operations leaders capturing the most value from AMR investment are the ones who closed this gap as part of the original design — not as a fix after go-live.
End-of-line is not outside the automation brief. It is part of it.

Not all downtime looks the same.
Some downtime is visible — a conveyor stops, an alarm fires, the WES flags it. People respond.
Some downtime is quiet. A stretch wrapper fails on the night shift in a facility three time zones away. The part isn't available locally. The vendor's nearest service contact is overseas. The line sits.
In operations, the downtime events that are hardest to recover from aren't always the biggest. They're the ones that were preventable — if someone had asked the right question during vendor selection.
A packaging vendor's ability to support your facilities internationally isn't a bonus. In multi-site operations, it's a basic requirement. Parts logistics. Local technical support. Equipment built to regional standards.
The vendors who meet that bar don't always get the most attention in a procurement conversation. But they're the ones your team remembers when something goes wrong at 2 a.m. in a facility that can't wait.
