Thank you to the volunteers and children with Middletown Christian Church who spent three days of their Mission Camp at CAP.
The camp sent three groups of 15 each day from Mon., June 8, through Wed., June 10. This popular Middletown five-day camp has included CAP each summer since 2017 (the exception being the summer of 2020), and CAP is one of several Louisville services and nonprofits that the camp supports.
While at CAP they processed uniform pants that will be distributed throughout the school year. They folded uniform shirts. They sorted slides and sandals. They sorted boxes of new sneakers, boots, heels, and flats that were donated in April by Amazon SDF4. Many of these heels and flats will be distributed at an upcoming bonus summer giveaway, which is the first such event at CAP in 10 years. Children also sorted new T-shirts.
Most of these children in grades one through five are students in various Jefferson County Public Schools, and they learn how the work they do at CAP will help their peers throughout the school year. In addition to a handful of adult volunteers there are middle and high school students and graduates who guide their younger charges.
These groups are wonderful to help CAP process large donations that require many nimble hands. So far in 2026 CAP has received 145 pallets—about six fully loaded tractor-trailer trucks—of new name brand items from generous corporate and nonprofit partners. Since 2018, CAP has received 45 tractor-trailer trucks of new items.
Kudos to all groups who teach young people to use their time and energy to help others. May they grow into adults who support nonprofits and charities in their community and others.

This week we received 12 pallets of "soft line" items from the United Breast Cancer Foundation. These are thousands of clothing items, pillows, sheets, costumes, blankets, bras, etc.
This sweatshirt is one of the new items in the boxes. We have four volunteers: Ireland, Jane, Amy, and Julie, going through some of these boxes today to sort things.
UBCF has donated 24 pallets to CAP since January 1 with items valued at more than $350,000. They are planning to send more. All of these items will be sorted and organized and go out to students and families in the coming year.
With the arrival of these 12 pallets on Thurs., May 14, that brings the total pallets of new name brand items delivered to CAP since January to 114 pallets, which is almost five full tractor-trailer trucks. That is also the total number of pallets of new items delivered to CAP during all of 2025.
