In honor of the holiday season quickly approaching we would like to share a bit of information with you regarding pancreatitis. We see a surge in pancreatitis cases during the holidays.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬?

It is an inflammatory disease of the pancreas, an organ that produces digestive enzymes and regulates blood sugar.

𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬:
Can be mild or severe, your pet may exhibit signs of lethargy, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dehydration, and in more severe cases shock, organ damage. If left untreated possible death.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬?

Access to fatty, rich human foods. If an animal is not accustomed to these foods they can quickly become ill after consuming them. Smaller breed dogs, older and/or animals with underlying health issues are more likely to become sick.

𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮.

- Keep your pet on their normal, balanced diet.
- Tell your guests that “people food” is off limits, even if they’re giving you the sad puppy eyes.
- If your animal is a counter surfer or likes to steal, keep them somewhere safe while food is out.

Treating pancreatitis can be very costly, the short term satisfaction is not worth the risks associated.

Marti has been a dedicated technician here at LVH for the past 10 years, we would truly be up creek without a paddle if we didn’t have her on our team! With her unwavering dedication, resilience, exceptional skills, and compassionate care, Marti ensures our team runs smoothly and our patients receive top notch care.🎉💗

Outside of work, you can find Marti gardening, tending to her sheep and chickens, cooking, 𝐀𝐍𝐃 being a full time mom!
