Help Shape the Next Ten Years at Lowell Cemetery

For 185 years, Lowell Cemetery has been cared for by — and for — the families and community that surround it. As the Board of Trustees begins work on our 2027–2037 strategic plan, we want to hear from the people who know this place best.

Whether you have family buried here, own a lot, work with us through a funeral home or municipal office, or simply walk the grounds and call them part of your neighborhood, your perspective matters. We've prepared a short survey — about ten minutes — that asks how the cemetery serves you today and what you'd like to see in the years ahead.

The survey is open through Friday, September 4, 2026.

Happy Birthday to William B. North, who was born in Wethersfield, CT, on this day in 1794. He was in charge of the dyeing department of the Middlesex Mills from 1834 until he died on January 3, 1872. A dyer was a specialist in the textile industry who focused on the color and finish of fabrics. William served in both branches of the Lowell City Council: the Board of Aldermen and the Common Council. He was a Lowell Cemetery Trustee from 1842 to 1844. The Middlesex Mills were closed on the afternoon of his funeral out of respect for his memory. Source: “The Springfield Daily Republican,” January 5, 1872.

Mae Estelle Williamson was born in Bangor, ME, on April 25, 1883. She married Freeland H. Burrell in Newport, ME, on August 18, 1908. Mae died on this day in 1919 and is buried between Wilder and Washington Aves. The inscription on her headstone suggests that Freeland intended to be buried here as well. Situations change, though. Freeland married Edna Corliss in 1937, and they are buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester, NH.
