Props to all the parents advocating for their children with schools this week. Literacy is worth fighting for!

As a parent, there are times when you need to trust your intuition. đź’
Times when you know something is wrong, and there’s more to it than what you’ve heard from teachers, friends, and well-meaning family members. 🥺
One of those times is when you’re reading a book 📚 to your child and he is soaking it in like a little sponge 🧽; but then you hand the book to him to take a turn reading and he doesn’t want to. 🤔
If you suspect your child might have dyslexia, don’t put it off until he’s 8 or listen to the “better late than early” philosophy. It doesn’t apply here. ⚠️
I have some openings this spring, so give me a call and we can chat about how your child is doing. I offer a free trial session to do reading assessments and see if we’re a good fit. 🆓
Don’t ignore that gut feeling. Because nobody knows your child like you do. 💝

Nothing can replace the experience of reading a good book. Not watching the movie, or hearing someone talk about it, or even seeing the play. I’m talking about the kind of story that causes a dopamine rush of excitement and pleasure, and you can’t read it fast enough to turn the next page. You don’t have enough time before bed to finish it, but you can’t imagine beginning another day of life without having read it either. I love that I can say I get to make this possible every day. I get to share the precious gift of reading, the world of words, and the endless realms of stories with those, who up to this point, have struggled to “crack the code”.

For students with suspected or confirmed dyslexia, the printed word can seem like a foreign language, even though it is their native tongue. My son felt this way, and although he loved to be read to, he never picked up a book to read on his own. It was equal parts baffling and heartbreaking. I have good news for those of you who can relate: Barton has cracked the code and presented the very intricate English language in a logical, systematic way the demystifies and brings clarity. It takes a complex task and makes it simple with bite-sized steps that combine spelling with reading.

You might have heard about Barton already, but you have questions and you’re not sure if it’s right for you.

Maybe you’ve tried some thing else that hasn’t produced good results for you yet…

You are a homeschool parent who is interested in tutoring your own child…

Or you’ve never heard of Barton and want to learn more.

Whatever category you fit in, I’d be happy to chat and find out if Barton is a good fit for you. I am a veteran homeschool mom of over 15 years to three sons and a Certified Barton Tutor. Serving dyslexic students since 2015, I have taught all 10 levels of the Barton Reading and Spelling System. I offer 50-minute sessions providing a fun learning atmosphere over Zoom through Killpatrick phonemic awareness drills, Foundation in Sounds Barton customized games and Orton Gillingham teaching methods. I also offer reading evaluations using the Neurolearning app screening along with other assessments.

The progress is so rewarding and exciting: increased confidence, reading fluency, reading accuracy, and spelling skills. Some students want to read to me at the end of our sessions to share their latest favorite book. Others share school success and milestones they never thought they’d see. The feedback that’s worth a million bucks is the eight-year-old who says he likes reading since starting tutoring, and he never enjoyed it before.

Send me a text, email or call Booksmart Tutoring to set up a free consultation. I have one opening this fall, which doesn’t happen very often.
