Thank to Tim Skubick for having me on Off the Record this week to discuss the state of the Presidential campaign in Michigan. Provided some insight from here in Macomb County. President Trump carried Macomb County by 48,000 votes in 2016 and won statewide by about 11,000 votes. We made the difference and I believe Trump will do even better in 2024. The entire plan behind the Redistricting Reform of 2018 put forward by Voters Not Politicians was to crack the vote in Detroit so they could be used in suburban districts. The trouble is that local representation in in our state's largest city is decimated.

Just look at the state senate.

On the old map, Detroit had 5 seats and all 5 state senators lived in the city. On the new map the city will have 8 seats and only two senators will live in the city. 4 of 5 state senators were African American and now there will be only 2 of 8.

Now we know why the Redistricting Commission lawyers wanted to meet behind closed doors. Their plan was to crack this vote and they succeeded. Suburban liberals win, and Detroit voters and African Americans lose. Detroit needs to be careful when suburban liberals come with new ideas because they got sold a bill of goods in 2018.
