After 28 years of dedicated service, this week we celebrate the retirement of Lisa Hughes.
For nearly three decades, Lisa has been an important part of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department family. Her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving both our department and our community have left a lasting impact on everyone who has had the privilege of working alongside her.
The fire service is more than a career—it’s a family. Through the years, Lisa has shared in our successes, stood beside us through challenges, and helped make this department stronger. Her hard work, loyalty, and passion for the fire service will not be forgotten.
We had the honor of celebrating Lisa alongside her family, friends, and coworkers. The room was packed and overflowing—a true testament to the lives she has touched throughout her career. Here are a few snapshots from her retirement celebration and the incredible turnout to honor her years of service.
While we’re excited for her as she begins this well-earned new chapter, she will be missed immensely by her fire family. We are incredibly grateful for her 28 years of faithful service and the legacy she leaves behind.
From all of us at the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, thank you, Lisa, for your dedication, your friendship, and your unwavering commitment. Congratulations on your retirement! We wish you a future filled with happiness, good health, relaxation, and countless new adventures.
Enjoy every moment—you’ve more than earned it. ❤️🚒

🇺🇸🎆 Fourth of July Weekend Fire Safety 🎆🇺🇸
We just wrapped up our Fourth of July Fire Safety press conference! Here are a few snapshots from today’s event. Be sure to check out our earlier LIVE video on Facebook for important fireworks safety tips and information on what to do—and what not to do—to help keep you and your family safe this holiday weekend.
As you celebrate, please remember:
🎇 Never allow children to handle or ignite fireworks.
💧 Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.
🏠 Keep fireworks away from homes, vehicles, dry grass, and other combustible materials.
🚫 Never attempt to relight a firework that doesn’t ignite.
🔥 Soak used fireworks in water before throwing them away.
The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate with family and friends, create lasting memories, and enjoy our nation’s freedom. There is no celebration if someone gets hurt, so please celebrate responsibly, look out for one another, and make safety your top priority.
From all of us at the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, we wish everyone a safe, fun, and happy Fourth of July weekend! Thank you for helping us keep our community safe. 🇺🇸🚒

Skip the backyard boom. The only SAFE way to enjoy fireworks is at a professional show. Sit back, relax, and let the experts light up the sky.
