This ice cream lab is the perfect kick off to summer! 🍨☀️ I love it because you can use this with a wide variety of age groups and it covers multiple science concepts/skills. Depending on the age you could focus on motor skills, measurements, phase changes, energy transfer, or chemical reactions! I’m actually thinking of having this as an activity at my daughter’s birthday party! 😊👏🏽 Materials: • 1 gallon bag • 1 sandwich bag • 2 cups of Ice 🧊 • 3 tbsp salt (ice cream salt works well because of its larger crystals) • 1 cup of milk 🥛 (your choice, but half and half comes out creamy) • 1 tsp vanilla flavoring or 1/4 tsp vanilla extract • 1 tbsp of sugar (can adjust according to taste) Procedure: Pour the ice and salt into the larger bag. Then pour the milk, vanilla, and sugar into the smaller bag. Be sure to seal the milk bag very well because you do not want the salty ice water to get in. Place the milk bag into the bag with ice and shake until your mixture hardens. This should take about 10-15 minutes. Pro tip: Shake the bag outside because there will be a large amount of condensation on that outside of the gallon bag. Using a towel on the outside of the bag can help protect your hands from the cold 🥶. •Also try pinching the top of the smaller bag to hold it upright inside the larger bag, then shake.
