Centenary Community

So many various crews and groups have been gathering all summer to prepare meals for kids in collaboration with Booker T Washington Community Center! This week our food was donated by Vineville UMC and made by this great group of women from Centenary UMC! The beauty of community at work!

Carolyn Yackel shared this great reflection from her experience:
Sara, I wanted to tell you our sandwich story.
David Swigart, my friend Margaret O’Neal, the twins, Bobby and I were the lunch team.
Yesterday Margaret and I got the supplies, but I terribly overestimated the supplies. After making all the lunches, David and the kids were game to keep going, so they made sandwiches until the turkey ran out and the jelly was also almost gone. So the community fridge also ended up with countless sandwiches delivered by David. For me this called to mind the loaves and the fishes. One twin, who has less of a biblical background said, “Wow. This is the gift that just keeps on giving. “
So there’s my sappy story of God’s grace in action. Also, we only knew David from sitting next to him in church, but we needed help with this endeavor, and he was a great partner. I felt like I could, because of a conversation we had had with him during one of your church service breakout sessions. Our worship connected back to our service!

As the school year begins again we’re gonna take some time to reset with intention with prioritizing spiritual practices in worship! Our blueberry bushes and fig trees are producing an abundant harvest right now! Dave and Alan picked some buckets full in June and we had a great crew today that gathered some for our community fridge and neighbors! Would you like to pick some?
