Say NO to the new Rental Inspection Ordinance When Fresno passed a similar ordinance, many current owners sold their properties to get out of the rental business. This could reduce property values for all homeowners throughout the community, and we do not want the same thing to happen in Madera.

Cities that have passed rental registration and inspection ordinances usually claim they’re necessary to crack down on code violations and punish slumlords. But violating the Fourth Amendment is an excessive response.

WHAT IS That we oppose?
The City of Madera Code Enforcement is proposing a NEW ordinance that would require all landlords in the city to register rental units in addition to the existing rental license with a fee that is already required, as well as requiring both exterior and interior inspections for each rental unit at a minimum of every year. This includes ALL RENTAL PROPERTY, including HOA and condo association communities. This page was created with several intentions in mind.
1) To educate people of the potentially devastating intended and unintended consequences of passing such an ordinance in our city.
2) To inform and organize those opposed to the ordinance.
3) To protect tenant's rights to privacy, search or entry without cause IS a violation of the 4th amendment!
